Adriaen van de Venne : “Skating Owls” (1620-1660)

Archival Inkjet on Matte Finish Fine Art Paper

The Ibis’s giclée process uses archival pigment inks on 100% cotton rag paper to achieve crisp detail and rich, lasting color. Unlike posters, they will not yellow with time, but will maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.

Two owls wearing human clothes: one sports the blue woolen cap worn by fishermen and peasants in the Netherlands at this time, the other wears the ruffs fashionable among the merchant classes and a black cloak of the kind worn by women in winter. The two birds skate across the ice against the backdrop of a winter landscape. A banner above their heads reads “How well we go together,” possibly a reference to the familiar saying “Birds of a feather flock together”.
