Ito Yuhan was a Japanese artist best-known for his blue-toned landscapes of Itsukushima. An island located in the northwest of Hiroshima Bay, it is popularly known as Miyajima, or “Shrine Island,” for its numerous temples. This watercolor looks toward the torii at Itsukushima Shrine, which welcomes visitors to the island, its base submerged during high tide.
